The combat sports world was hit with a thunderbolt today, as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Hall of Famer and former Welterweight champion, Pat Miletich, announced his decision to step out of a 15-year retirement. His return to the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) scene is slated for Oct. 14, 2023, at a Caged Aggression MMA event.
His opponent, Mike Jackson, is a name familiar to MMA aficionados. The match, a fully-sanctioned standard non-title 175-pound Catchweight bout, brings together two former friends turned rivals, guaranteeing fireworks both inside and outside the ring.
Miletich and Jackson’s rivalry is one for the books, evolving from a close relationship to an intense face-off. The two were once corner companions during Jackson’s second UFC fight in 2018, a bond that has since transformed into a fierce competition.
Their rivalry kicked off with a series of online interactions after Miletich shared his experiences participating in the Jan. 2021 Washington, D.C. protest. This event triggered a flurry of back-and-forth accusations and challenges, setting the stage for their upcoming fight.
This fight marks Miletich’s first MMA match since his triumphant knockout against Thomas Denny. He also showcased his prowess in a kickboxing match against Michael Nunn in July 2020. For Jackson, fans will recall his infamous UFC 225 battle with Phil “CM Punk” Brooks, overturned due to Jackson testing positive for marijuana, followed by a victory against Dean Barry and a defeat against Pete Rodriguez.
The Miletich-Jackson face-off coincides with another thrilling comeback by Mark Coleman, Miletich’s fellow UFC Hall of Famer, making the weekend a memorable one for UFC fans worldwide.
As anticipation builds for this spectacular MMA event, fans across the globe are eagerly awaiting the clash of these titans, sure to deliver an unforgettable spectacle.
